Assessing Kirkwood's maiden win as gloves come off in Dixon/O'Ward fight
This week’s episode of The Race IndyCar Podcast digs into several spicy storylines coming out of the Grand Prix of Long Beach, including a driver claiming the gloves are off after a crash that the other party refused to apologise for, a breakthrough win for a long-touted racer, and a driver wanting his crash damage to be paid for.
After an action-packed Long Beach race even by IndyCar standards, co-host JR Hildebrand charts his former team-mate Kyle Kirkwood’s rise culminating in last weekend’s win, how criticism of him has been unfair, and what this win might mean for his future.
JR and co-host Jack Benyon also unpick the clash between Scott Dixon and Pato O’Ward, leading Hildebrand to question whether the racing code has changed and if O’Ward’s move might have been deemed unacceptable in the past, which could make Dixon more feisty in the future.
Jack also praises the performance of Marcus Ericsson, as the Ganassi driver picked up the points lead after another podium, and finally, the hosting team round-up what to look for at this week’s Indianapolis 500 two-day test.
