Guerrillas and Combative Mothers- Recognizing women who actively participated in the liberation struggle.
As we gear up for Freedom Day, we pay special attention to women who actively participated in the liberation struggle. The recently published book, 'Guerrillas and Combative Mothers' gives a first-hand account of women's participation in the armed struggle against apartheid from 1961 to 1994 and their lives in a democratic South Africa. The author, Professor Siphokazi Magadla, skillfully traces life histories of 40 women who fought with Poqo, the military wing of the PAC; uMkhonto we Sizwe, the military wing of the ANC, and the township-based self-defence units. Prof Magadla is our guest for the Sunday Morning DiscussionÂ
