This morning we discuss the most bizarre ritual of Yom Kippur, described in our Torah Portion (Acharei Mot-Kedoshim) on which our atonement before God rests - the sent away goat (or scapegoat). We present the understanding of Maharal, which provides a fundamental view of our personality and connection with God. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
