This morning we discuss what is a person's name in Jewish Law. The question is quite complicated, as our name is used in different contexts with different levels of precision needed. We untangle this, along with when a Jewish baby is named and why, plus who chooses the name (not who you think). Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
