In today’s episode I talk to Ricky Baker who is a film producer, presenter and entrepreneur, specialising in Asian Action Cinema.
Ricky was instrumental in bringing martial arts movies and Hong Kong cinema to the masses through his UK-based Eastern Heroes company which is a well-known brand around the globe.
Along with kung fu movie expert Toby Russell, Ricky introduced the genre to a new, global audience.
He provided many of Hong Kong’s leading lights with their first appearances outside Asia, hosting events with the likes of Donnie Yen, Jet Li, Chow Yun-fat, Gordon Liu and John Woo.
Ricky has produced documentaries and published well over 70 books and magazines.
He presented a TV show with Jonathan Ross for the BBC Called “STOP KUNG FU” a six part series featuring many guest stars.
Currently he is writing a new book with Ken Miller and Hollywood movie director Brett Ratner.
Ricky talks about his humble and challenging beginnings that shaped his life into adulthood. Having overcome great struggles and adversities, it is his great resilience to change, that helped him overcome huge difficulties. Yet he was able to turn his life around to achieve global success.
