KED Talk - From Competitor to Coach with Kate Sylvester
This is the Kendo Enlightened Discourse (KED) Talk series! This is a podcast-style series where we discuss vaguely kendo-related topics or whatever else comes to mind! In this episode, we talk with Renshi 6-dan Kate Sylvester. Shewas born in New Zealand and started kendo as a high school exchange student in Japan at the age of 15. She represented New Zealand at her first World Kendo Championships in 2000. Thereafter, Kate competed for Australia at every WKC between 2003-2015. At the 2018 WKC, she was head coach of the Australian national kendo team (women and men), leading Australia to their first medal placing. Currently residing in Sweden, Kate is now the head coach of the Swedish women's national kendo team and an assistant instructor at Föreningen Stockholms Kendo Allians (FSKA).

--- ABOUT US ---
Kendo World is devoted to Japanese budo (martial arts), and the dissemination of its vast practical, philosophical and historical aspects to the non-Japanese speaking community.
Although our primary focus is kendo, we also cover iaido, naginata, jodo, jukendo and tankendo, as well as other koryu (classical martial arts). Kendo World publishes books and articles of cultural and historical significance on various subjects related to budo. Kendo World gathers an international network of experienced martial artists spread across Japan and the world. The Kendo World Team is constantly trying to improve not only the quality of the publications, but the strength of the international kendo community. We would like to thank you for your interest in Kendo World, and look forward to seeing you in our different events.
