In this episode I talk about my religious upbringing and how that has played into my relationship with my higher power today. When I got into recovery the idea of a relationship with a Higher Power made me cringe, I thought I'd have to go back to the same religion that I grew up in. I really struggled and wrestled with this idea. I don't know what changed or shifted, and I realized that my relationship with my Higher Power is just that, MY relationship. In the fellowship it is stressed that in order to have a solid program there needs to be a spiritual aspect. We are spiritual beings, in recovery or out, and it's our job to tap into that spirituality no matter what our Higher Power is. It is very clear to me that today in my life my Higher Power is doing things for me that I cannot do for myself, and I am very grateful for that and give all the credit to my Higher Power. I don't consider myself religious, I am spiritual, and am reminded of a power quote "religion is for people who are afraid of hell, while spirituality is for those who have been there". Thank you all so much for joining me on my journey, here's to healing!
