Lucca Mesinas, Olympian, Challenger Series competitor, and the first Peruvian surfer to ever qualify for the men’s Championship Tour, joins the podcast. He talks about qualifying for the tour in 2022 and making history for Peru, the experience of his first season on the CT, the challenges, the elite level of surfing, and what he learned most. He discusses his strong start to the Challenger Series season at the Gold Coast, his preparation throughout the summer at home, his increased confidence, and his goals for 2023. He looks back at the highlights from his career so far, starting off in the perfect left pointbreaks of Máncora and Northern Peru, winning the 2019 Pan American Games in El Salvador, and finishing fifth in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Lucca also touches on his motivation to qualify for the 2024 Olympics being held in Tahiti, his heat strategy book, the need for more events in South America, and the top three surf spots on his home continent.
