What is Preached? with Jay Christianson

There has always been a tension between what is preached in church and what is not. As any church that grows in size and in organization, there comes a financial burden to be met by the demands of the ministry.  It is those demands that can dictate how prophetic the ministerial staff can become before it might affect the bottom line of that church. I know this might sound like sacrilege, but it is the truth. As a pastor, I was told not to preach on issues that drive people away. I was told just to keep to the simple Gospel … and that’s it. No hot topics, no divisive themes where people disagree … this way we can keep peace, and keep them writing the checks. That may sound cynical, but it is true.
