Playing the Cards You're Dealt by Varian Johnson

Ant used to love his nickname, now, not so much.  He used to love playing Spades for fun, but now, not so much. Mostly because he wants to make his father proud. He wants to be able to win the big local Spades tournament coming up, but the year before, he and his best friend and partner, Jamal, pretty much flopped. Now Ant has to figure out how to win while at the same time trying to figure out what exactly is going on with his dad.

Recommended for grades 6 and up.
