The pilot episode of the Wolverine anime may be called "Mariko," but that doesn't mean she's going to have any agency or character development on this show. Luckily, her sexist plotline goes down a bit easier this time, because the show is so freakin' goofy. Logan's character is a cross between Gambit and Dante from Devil May Cry; we are pretty sure he doesn't know what sex is. Also, all of the dialogue on this anime may have been written by a 13-year-old attempting to imagine what a bad-ass superhero mutant like Wolverine would say and do. The results are indescribable, and yet also, quintessential 2010s anime kitsch. We find it absurd, and yet we love it with all of our hearts.
Next week's episode: "Yukio," Wolverine (Marvel anime)
