Episode 197: The Unspoken Word in the Debt Crisis: Pentagon!
In this week's episode, CODEPINK Congress Coordinator Marcy Winograd interviews economist, public
policy analyst and prolific author Jeffrey Sachs on how the bloated military budget drives the debt
crisis. Sachs estimates US debt at $24-trillion dollars, much of it the result of US wars in Iraq, Afghanistan
and Ukraine, as well the maintenance of 800 military bases abroad, development of new weapons systems
and a nuclear rearmament program in violation of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, which the US
ratified over 50 years ago. Sachs says no to NATO expansion and warns the US must seek a ceasefire in Ukraine
and not start another proxy war with China over Taiwan. Peace is the path forward, according to Sachs.
