This morning we discuss the curious job description of the Leviim (Levites), who were assigned tasks based on family membership, and not based on ability or interest. Rabbi Moshe Lichtenstein sees in this the reason for where our Torah portion, Nasso, starts, and a fundamental principle about what God expects from us - to serve God and not ourselves. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
