Most of us are not aware that the five meter high 15th century weathervane at the top of the city hall spire, depicting Saint Michael defeating the Devil is a copy. The last time the original was restored over twenty years ago it was replaced. The original was housed in the tower itself, until recently, when it was moved across the Grand’ Place to the Museum of the City of Brussels for the new exhibition The Grand Place To Be. But the devil got stuck trying to leave the building until a big enough window was located. City historian Roel Jacobs tells us what is significant about this enormous weathervane.
