10@9 Moshe's Breakdown Comforts Me - June 8, 2023

This morning we discuss the low point of Moshe's leadership in our Parsha, B'Ha'alotecha. Partially based on an essay by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, we suggest the comfort this provides any spiritual leader, knowing what Moshe (and Jeremiah, Elijah, Jonah, and others) went through, and persevered to become our greatest leader. Jewish spiritual leadership will always face some amount of failure, because our goal, change, is so ambitious. But our Torah portion teaches us that failure is not fatal. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
