I yelled at a new client recently for saying they're broken.
I reminded them that no one needs to put them back together.
No one needs to fix them.
And there's nothing so irreparable about them that they're a lost cause.
Like my client, so many of us see the messages that because of the shit we've been through we're broken and this one person can help put you back together again.
I F$&%ing hate when I see coaches & therapists put out messages like this!
It's a power play meant to prey on someone's insecurities and so incredibly wrong.
My dad always said duct tape could patch anything (in case it weren't obvious that I'm Gen X that should clarify things 🤣).
We're not broken, we just need a little figurative duct tape to help patch up the emotional wounds we're carrying.
That way they don't get bigger and harder to patch.
We can always get patched up and the cool thing is we already have the duct tape to do it.
Sometimes we need the help of a therapist, coach, friends, partner, or community to do the patching.
But we know how to do it and no matter how fancy someone else's duct tape looks it's all duct tape.
The thing to look for is someone that'll help support you in using your own duct tape that understands you're not broken, you just need help patching up!
