Vampires and other Blood Suckers | True Scary Stories
For thousands of years, myths and legends about vampires have been shared across various cultures, including the Mesopotamians, Hebrews, ancient Greeks, and Romans. These stories often feature demonic beings and bloodthirsty spirits that served as precursors to the modern vampire. The specific folklore and characteristics of the vampire that we recognize today emerged primarily from the verbal traditions of Southeastern Europe in the early 18th century, particularly in Transylvania, Romania. Many different ethnic groups in the region shared their tales of these creatures, which were eventually recorded and published.
In general, vampires were believed to be reanimated corpses of evil beings, suicides, or witches. They could also be created through possession by malevolent spirits or through the bite of another vampire. The belief in these creatures was so widespread that it sometimes led to mass hysteria and even public executions of people suspected of being vampires.
