My Guest: This week, Barbara Haeffner is my guest. Barbara is the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Innovation for the Meriden Public Schools in Meriden, CT. We talk about her career, we talk about technology, we talk about including those MOST impacted by a decision, and we talked about US Secretary of Education, Secretary Cardona. Barbara worked closely with the US Secretary of Education, who not only grew up in Meriden, CT, but also served as a teacher and administrator in the school district. In fact, Barbara succeeded him as the assistant superintendent of Teaching and Learning. Barbara has some fun stories about Secretary Cardona.
Bio: Barbara Haeffner has many roles in Meriden. She handles K-12 district curriculum, she deals with parental issues relating to instruction, she clarifies board policy and school procedures for parents and the community, and she is responsible for the successful rollout of the Teacher and Leader Evaluation and Development Plan. She handles ALL the most difficult aspects of a school system. You can see why I wanted to talk with her.
Interesting tidbit...Barbara co-authored the book The Great Equalizer: Six Strategies to Make Public Education Work in America which was co-published by Rowman & Littlefield and AASA.
