This morning we investigate the discrepancy in how God responds to the Spies - with utter anger, no forgiveness - with how God responds to what seems liker a much greater sin, the Golden Calf - where God not only forgives the Jewish People, but institutes Yom Kippur as an annual opportunity for forgiveness and atonement. Using a story and parenting advice from Rabbi Yaakov Kaminetsky, we learn when to consider a negative action serious, and when it is just a passing mistake. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
