When you enter a classroom, yoga studio, or a seminar, where do you sit? Do you make a beeline for the front row, or tuck yourself away at the back of the room? Your answer to this question may reveal something about your relationship to risk!
Front-of-the-class mentality means being comfortable with being seen. Back-of-the-class mentality, on the other hand, means protecting yourself from risk and judgment. Sitting in the back of the room gives you an easy way out and lets you avoid attracting too much attention. Often, we wind up in the back because we believe that we just aren’t READY to move forward.
The difference between sitting in the back and sitting in the front can be like night and day, in terms of the quality of your experience and the benefits you may receive. We can start off with a back-of-the-class mentality and then shift to a front-of-the-class mentality as we grow more confident in our skills and knowledge.
In your own business, there may be areas where you have a back-of-the-class mentality and consider yourself to be a beginner in need of a safe exit strategy. This can lead to you playing smaller and missing out on powerful opportunities for growth! By shifting into a front-of-the-class mindset, you open yourself up to learning new things, gaining new skills, making mistakes, and learning from them.
