Creating Common Memory re: Juneteenth (Excerpts from 2022 episode)
One year ago (June 2022) I recorded a Second Cup of Coffee episode titled "Creating Common Memory re: Juneteenth. In commemoration of Juneteenth 2023 I am reposting the main excerpts from that episode.
On June 19th the US will celebrate #Juneteenth, marking the day in 1865 when after the Civil War, slavery ended in the Confederacy as news of the the Emancipation Proclamation reached Texas. But did you know that enslaved people in the northern states of Kentucky and Delaware would not receive their freedom until 7 months later! I invite you to join me for My Second Cup of Coffee to discuss.
