A group of 12 4-Hers from Tennessee have been spending part of their summer in Alaska learning about the state, their agriculture and 4-H programs. Zach Lewis of Overton county is one of the Tennessee students that spent all of last week getting an up close look at the agriculture in Alaska.

It's really different than Tennessee. And it's really been a good experience to get to learn how something else works other than Tennessee, you know, you see, you know, I've been to multiple states outside of Tennessee, and especially in the South East region here they're all relatively the same. They're all diverse in their own way. But when you come up here to this kind of terrain and the weather and nearly 24 hour sunlight in the summer and the winter is 24 hour darkness, it's gonna you're gonna run into struggles whether you're growing something or you're a you have livestock on your farm.

Macey Gean of Dyer County also went on the trip. While it's taken some getting used to the almost 24 hours of daylight and the time change Gean says it's a trip she'll never forget. And She's really enjoyed it.
Macey Gean
This is my first time really out of the house on a plane and saying just the different ways that you do things and just seeing the background and all the native culture and history about Alaska has been such an eye opener.

Tennessee State 4-H Director Justin crow says Tennessee 4-H is unique in that it gives four agers the opportunity to go on trips like these and experience new things.
Justin Crowe
That's what we do in 4-H We help provide the outlets for these young people to grow and learn. In Tennessee 4-H you know understand the opportunities we have at home to learn and to grow as it relates to agriculture and rural life. But we also realize there's a whole other world out there and even within the United States.

A whole other world with lots of fun and unique experiences with a road that always leads back home to Tennessee. For Tennessee Home and Farm Radio, I'm Thomas Capps.
