The One In Which We Talk About How We Turn Delayed Gratification Against Ourselves.
Big sigh. Want to know how to start feeling good? Today we are talking about how being too practiced at delayed gratification (you know who you are) leads us to habitually deny ourselves rest and pleasure, often without even realizing it. Again, there are LOTS of issues with systems that contribute to this, not just the medical system or the medical training system, but also race, gender, religions and many other influences that teach us to defer pleasure now for reward later. Nothing wrong with delaying gratification some of the time. But when we do this over and over again, we stop allowing ourselves to have pleasure or rest in some very tangible ways.
Yes, we are going to talk about the challenges and importance of feeling your feelings, that is being aware of and accepting of your emotions, rather than just sitting and stewing in them, or pretending we don't feel anything.
