My Guest: This week, Dr. Mike Nelson is my guest. Mike is the Assistant Executive Director for Professional Learning for the Washington Association of School Administrators (or WASA). In our conversation, we talk about an impressive program his district created to improve the achievement of First Nation students and we talk about what happens when you're a new principal and you tell two veteran teachers they must change they way they teach reading (hint: it doesn't go very well!).
Bio: Mike Nelson is the former superintendent of the Enumclaw School District, a school district he served for 21 years – 13 years as the superintendent (and here's a fun fact - Mike attended Enumclaw schools as a student!).
In 2019, he was recognized as the Washington State Superintendent of the Year.
Mike, welcome to an Imperfect Leader.
