405: Takeaways and Clues from Seahawks Mandatory Minicamp
The Seahawks got together for their mandatory minicamp this month and it gave us a chance to hear from coaches, veterans and some of the new teammates. In this episode, we dig through their press conferences to find some clues about what to expect from aspects of the offense and defense this upcoming season. Could we see a change to how Bobby Wagner is used on defense? He talked about one key difference in how the Rams used him last year in coverage.
Julian Love is one addition on defense that we looking forward to seeing how he's deployed, especially considering the almost 'dominant' camp that Pete Carroll says Mike Jackson is having. Could Mike Jackson ensure that he gets some significant time? Or will it be difficult for him to see the field if Devon Witherspoon and Love are both spending a lot of time on the field? Pete Carroll and Clint Hurtt each offered insight to that potential battle.
On the offense, we hear from DK Metcalf and how he speaks toward the team culture that both Geno Smith and the coaches are trying to instill in this group. Jaxon Smith-Njigba is gaining the respect of many of the veterans on the team already and Geno broke down what makes his route running in particular stand out. Finally, we hear from coaches Shane Waldron and Andy Dickerson about battles on the offensive line and at wide receiver.
In the second half of the show, we talk about a couple potential trade targets that have been discussed for the Seahawks in the media recently. Is there more that could be done along the defensive line? Do Better call outs go to Bobby Wagner and an article focused on an offseason move the Seahawks could regret.
