TV & Film:Film Reviews
Every generation has its Bond, and for today's moviegoers, Daniel Craig bears the iconic 007 code name. Although his four-film tenure (so far) has certainly been a rocky one, there's no denying that Craig's appearance as James Bond in director Sam Mendes' 2012 entry, Skyfall, is among the series' finest moments. From its stirring Adele-performed theme song to Javier Bardem's chilling villain to Roger Deakins' gorgeous cinematography, the film is a visual delight and bursting with rich themes and characters. So it stands to reason that Skyfall would be the first Bond film to be covered on the podcast.
This episode, guest Adam Barnard of Screen Fever returns to the show to dissect Mendes' first Bond film. Join us as we discuss the franchise's 57-year history, Craig's run as the character and the failings of Mendes' own Skyfall follow-up, Spectre. We'll also consider who should play 007 next and how Skyfall reckons with both the series past and its future. Cue up that iconic John Barry theme, and as Adele indelibly croons, let the sky fall.
Skyfall synopsis, courtesy of MGM:
Bond's (Daniel Craig) loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter the cost. Also starring Javier Bardem, Judi Dench, and Naomie Harris.
