Over the weekend, Cody and Jessica Grills of Dyer County were named Young Farmers of the Year for the Tennessee Young Farmers and Ranchers program.

We feel blessed that we're just blessed beyond measure. You know, there's some great people out there that we're competing in this and I saw their operations I saw their stories and it's been a farmer the years just a wonderful, wonderful privilege.

Well over the weekend, Cody and Jessica Grills of Dyre County were named Young Farmers of the Year for the Tennessee Young Farmers and Ranchers program, the couple farms with Cody's family in Newbern and has been involved in the organization for several years now. Jessica comments more on how she felt being named state winners.

It's a very humbling experience. It's amazing to be named with those who have done this before and win this award and to be up there with those individuals. It's truly an amazing experience

As the ninth generation on his family's farm, Cody farms alongside his two brothers and father, and is also raising the 10th generation with their son Rhys. Cody shares more about the operation

We are 3000 acres of diversified row crop we have soybeans and corn that we rotate between we will do some triticale in the summer, every now and then. But corn and soybeans is where we make our money and we want to be profitable there. And so far we have been and we've just been very fortunate very blessed to be a part of it.

No strangers to Farm Bureau or Young Farmers and Ranchers the Grills have a long family legacy and the organization have been heavily involved themselves serving on state committee and holding other various roles on the local level. Both share the benefits of their experience

Has developed our communication skills, our leadership abilities. Without Farm Bureau, we probably wouldn't have been able to do that, you know. So we're just very fortunate to be part of such a great organization.
Jessica Grills
I have always been a very shy, quiet person. It's really given me a way to get into a leadership position and feel comfortable sharing our story.

As state winners the Grills receive a year's free use of a Case IH tractor and a Kubota RTV and will represent Tennessee in Salt Lake City for the American Farm Bureau Federation convention in January 2024. For Tennessee Home and Farm Radio I'm Amy Beckham
