This morning we discuss the two metaphors in the famous Kinnah (lamentation we say today, Tisha B'Av), Eli Zion, and how each speaks to a different experience and era. Partially based on an essay by Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, we trace how one metaphor speaks to us today as it never has in 2,000 years. We then sing this Kinnah together, along with the concluding paragraphs of this morning's Kinnot service. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
