This morning we discuss what Judaism says about death, dying, and mourning - practical details from which emerge lessons in living life more meaningfully and fully. Part 6 covers distinguishing between our obligation to honour the deceased, which begins at death, and our responsibility to support and comfort the mourners, which takes over as the funeral ends. We discuss some of the less-know details of observing Shiva, which help set the mood, and focus us on the goals Shiva should provide. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
