On April 21, 2020, Katie Palmer and her husband, John, were taking an early morning walk around 7:30 a.m. just outside of Denison, Texas, in Grayson County. This wasn’t something Katie normally did with John, but she told him the night before that she wanted to walk with him the next morning. She reluctantly kept her promise, dragged herself out of bed, and put on her sneakers. After walking for about 15 minutes down Glenwood Drive, the couple turned around and began walking back home, on the left side of the road toward oncoming traffic, per pedestrian law. John remembers Katie looking back at him to say something and then the feeling of flying through the air.
Katie and John were hit by a large pickup truck driven by Cory Todd Foster. John was critically injured and Katie was airlifted to a nearby hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries the next morning. We had the pleasure of speaking with John Palmer and learning about who Katie was, what happened that day, and the mishandling of the investigation into her death.
This is the first half of our interview with John Palmer.
