This morning we discuss the financial aspect of Shmita (the Sabbatical Year), the release of loans. The outlook on life which this Mitzvah in our Parsha of Re'eh presupposes, is fundamental to the system of Jewish values, and is relevant at all times. We demonstrate this with a marvelous story from Rabbi Berel Wein. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
