When we see people, how do we see them? Sometimes we see categories. Sometimes we see the behavior of others. At times, we hardly notice people at all.
How did Jesus see people? When He saw the multitudes, He had compassion (Matt. 9:35-38). Jesus’ compassion for humanity is evident in Eph. 2:1-10. In this, we observe our common condition, His compassion, and ultimately our calling. In Jesus’s life on Earth, He saw potential in people. He primarily identified two categories of individuals.
We can assess our level of compassion, identify with others’ needs, recognize potential in them, and make ourselves available to be used by God in ministering to those around us. By showing compassion, we point people to Jesus and build God’s kingdom.
