Multiple Conflicting Truths, World Cup Recap pt1 (w/ Tamerra Griffin)
We had a lot of ground to cover so we decided to bring in freelance women's soccer writer who covered the World Cup for The Athletic, Tamerra Griffin!
Tamerra joined Courtney & André for a conversation about both sides of Spain's victory over England, and lifting their first every World Cup trophy. First they discuss the matchup on the pitch, the impact of Salma Paralluelo starting and Lauren James on the bench, what went wrong for England, and whether Sarin Wiegman panicked or had a little too much dip on her chip.
Then we dive into the ick of Spain's win. We look at the federation and its key figures, who wasted no time in reminding us just how backwards and disgusting they truly are. We discuss the conflict of celebrating the players while knowing this will embolden an already brazen collection of men.
We also look at the player perspective, those who played and those who sacrificed, and discuss why labor issues are never as binary as people would like.
Please listen, subscribe, rate and review – we appreciate y'all!
