This morning we discuss the allegorical meaning of the Mitzvah of Shiluach HaKan (sending away the mother bird), based on a technical detail in the Talmud of how this is observed. This allegory shifts this passage from an action to a prayer, heartfelt and emotional. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
