Step by step: How a producer implemented chaff decks and summer cropping in Parkes
Nathan Border is an Agronomist and Broadacre cropper, who farms alongside his family on their property "Oriel", just outside of Parkes near Goonumbla. In the last 15 years, the family has shifted from a mixed-farming system to a cropping-only enterprise, following the mindset of doing "As much as you can, as quickly as you can."
In this episode, Nathan shares how the family has shifted to a cropping-only operation, and explains how it enabled the adoption of practices like chaff decking and summer cropping, to help maintain a proactive business. He also breaks down the changes that have allowed the business to improve production and overcome new challenges.
Local Land Services Cropping Officer, Tim Bartimote, caught up with Nathan on the back veranda at "Oriel" for this chat.
