Ep.06 - Tackling Tough Talks: The CAEO Framework
Having difficult conversations is tough, but they're often the most important ones to have.
In this episode, we talk about the four keys to a difficult conversation. We also cover some ground rules to consider, like creating a foundation of friendship and leading with curiosity.
The framework for difficult conversations consists of four components, represented by the acronym CAEO.
The steps include
- Creating a container for the conversation,
- Acknowledging the issue,
- Explaining emotional feelings with context, and
- Offering options to remedy the issue.
We also discuss the importance of setting ground rules, such as leading with curiosity and allowing vulnerability, to ensure that the conversation is productive.
Overall, this episode provides valuable insights and tips for anyone looking to have difficult conversations effectively.
My thanks go out to Rachel Wright of the Wright Conversations podcast for presenting this framework in her first podcast episode! Sex is her topic of conversation, but our lives are filled with difficult conversations everywhere!
