EP219 Bringing it Back: EP113 What We Learned and Didn’t About Negotiating
Welcome to Episode 219 where we grab another one from the vault that’s all about how to negotiate what we need.
In this episode we explore how important it is to know how to negotiate needs in healthy ways, so that we can enjoy strong connections with those we care about, problem-solve and resolve conflict without hurting the trust in the relationship.
We identified how our families were our first classrooms where we either learned how to ask for what we need in healthy ways – or not, since they taught us what they knew, and modeled how to handle conflict – and life. From witnessing passive-aggressive behavior, emotional immaturity and maybe even violence, to the other end where nothing was confronted or dealt with in front of the kids, so they never learned how.
Being able to negotiate is so much more than asking for a lower price on a car. It requires having good boundaries, the ability to detach and grieve, and decent self-esteem. That’s why when work on this, we work on so much more.
Key Elements:
· Identify unhealthy coping mechanisms families can pass on to their children.
· Look at what a healthy enough family was supposed to provide for you.
· Address ways you can begin looking at your own struggles around boundaries, grief work and self-esteem.
Working on boundaries, grieving and self-esteem
reap huge benefits in so many areas of our lives,
from relationships to career to parenting - to simply
feeling and being more confident and happier.
What price would you pay for all that?
