In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the 13th annual National Hockey League Players’ Association Rookie Showcase on September 5 at MedStar Capitals Iceplex in Arlington, Virginia. The highlight of the event was the number one overall pick in this year's NHL draft Connor Bedard. Connor who had 71 goals and 143 points in just 57 games for Regina last season. Connor had some kind words for Alex Ovechkin and commented on Ovechkin's chase of Wayne Gretzky for all time goals scored: "I think he gets it. Two years I give him, but yeah, it's pretty crazy that he's scored that many goals," Bedard said. "I mean, just to kind of be watching it in the past couple years, obviously got 800, and then you know, passed Howe and everything, so it's just pretty cool to see. If he breaks it, it's special for the whole game." Late Dan talks about the well-attended informal skate today. Ovechkin joins Nicklas Backstrom, John Carlson, Darcy Kuemper, Alex Alexeyev, T.J. Oshie, Dylan Strome, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Nic Dowd, Joel Edmundson, Nick Jensen, Vincent Iorio, Andrew Cristall, Lucas Johansen, Joe Snively, Alexander Suzdalev, Alex Limoges were in attendance. In the final segment Dan talks about Spencer Carbery and his thoughts on Nick Backstrom.
