How many boxes do you have to check before you say "YES"?
In today's episode, the courageous Julia Sampson, Yard Card Genie, shares how she moved from self-doubt to self-confidence. Don't let the "boxes" hold you back!!!
Julia Sampson is a mother, wife, and dedicated community member who obtained her MBA in Small Business Management in 2013 but was unable to fulfill her dream of owning her own business because of the many hats women like her often wear.
Julia, a military kid and Charleston, South Carolina native is now living in Southern Maryland. One day in 2019 during the Pandemic her sister, who was living in South Carolina, called her and asked her if she had heard of what a “Yard Card” was and thought it would be a wonderful business idea for her. Julia had no idea but was intrigued. After doing some research, she concluded that this was the perfect way to positively impact her community through the gift of JOY! Yard Card Genie LLC offers beautifully executed yard art displays, all done after hours by a “Genie”, so the recipient is surprised in the morning. This indoor or outdoor rented display celebrates birthdays, anniversaries, retirements, new babies, and more. If you want to celebrate it, she can help you do just that in a unique and fun way. Julia, the sole Genie for now, is responsible for executing these plans.
In starting her Yard Art business, she enlisted her fully supportive family. In fact, her daughter who is LGBTQ (and of whom Julia believes is amazing and a freaking unicorn) designed her business logo. Her husband of 19 years, of who Julia nicknamed "Dr. Genie," along with her son help execute some of her displays during the busy season. Her passion for people and strong business acumen are what she believes to be what make her business successful.
