This morning we discuss the need for an overture prior to the High Holidays, and how Selichot (the prayers we say each morning through Yom Kippur) fulfill this role. We explore the amazing promise God made in response to Moshe asking to be forgiven for the Golden Calf, why we Ashkenazim start these prayers at least 4 days before Rosh Hashana, and add a great story from Rabbi Meilech Biderman that conveys the love and respect with which God greets us on Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur, and why that should melt our hearts.
