28. Building A Private Practice With A Little Help From Our Friends: The Power of Networking with Tamara Howell
In this episode, Tamara Howell joins me to talk about the power of networking to help you increase your professional community as a therapist in private practice. Tamara shares how to create a referral network, creative ways to connect with your colleagues and the importance of social connection. As a solo/online private practitioner, we need referral sources to increase our professional community, and by coming together and sharing resources, therapists can enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, and develop a strong professional network, ultimately contributing to their personal and professional growth.
“I love networking, basically, I mean, I'm not really extroverted, I consider myself an ambivert. But I love building connections. And the reason for that is because I really want to be the best referrer out there. And I think when we go into our professional relationship with the intention of being the person that has the best information, and can be the best matchmaker for people finding their therapists, and can connect different professionals with each other, for collaboration opportunities, for example, I think that it makes it so much easier than when we put pressure on ourselves to perform and to represent ourselves accurately. And this is true of private practice, online business, any sort of space where we feel like we have to sell our skills. Actually, if I take the perspective of learning about other people's skills, and how I can support other people, it's much easier, they'll get to know me, they'll get to know my skills, just through the act of doing that.” - Tamara Howell
