In this week’s episode of ‘Therapy-ish, we sit down with Shannon Overland, a Licensed Professional Counselor providing play therapy services at her own practice in Austin, TX, Overland Children and Family Services. Shannon specializes in working with young children in outpatient, mobile, and Telehealth settings utilizing play. This episode is all about how children (and even adults) can benefit from the dynamics of play therapy. Asha and Shannon talk everything from the importance of helping children express themselves and cultivating their emotional intelligence, how the COVID-19 pandemic rocked the field of play therapy, and the importance of these services for children despite the lack of providers. Therapy-ish was created with the mindset of removing the stigma around mental health and to help bridge the gap from the streets to the office. Our goal is to educate listeners on new ways to go about seeking help, becoming more aware of where we are, discuss therapy in traditional and non-traditional ways with expressing new ways to move forward in the world.
