Self-Scouting Your Calls and Your Culture – Dante Bartee (Oregon) and Morgan Scalley (Utah)
On today’s podcast, we get unique perspectives on the mid-season self scout providing insight into the calls we move forward with as well as what we need to do to keep our culture at the heart of our team’s performance.
First, we get the perspective of an analyst from Oregon analyst Dante Bartee. He gives us four aspects to look at the data and take action on moving forward.
Then we take a look at how we can also self-scout the culture of our units and team. Utah defensive coordinator Morgan Scalley shares his methodology and the reasoning behind it.
Putting these two aspects of evaluating your team’s performance to this point can provide you with actionable data to give your team an optimal chance for success in the second half of the season.
First up is Dante Bartee. He has served as a defensive coordinator at the college level and he takes a methodical approach to looking at the self-scout data to determine how your plans have worked out and where to go next. He shares the four steps to his approach.
In his 16th year overall as a Utah assistant coach, Morgan Scalley will enter his eighth season as Utah’s defensive coordinator in 2023. He has instilled the culture and identity of the Utah Defense known as RSNB – standing for Relentless, Smart, Nasty, Ballhawks. To live that culture he understands that they must constantly be performing in line with the behaviors that exhibit RSNB and he shares both how he thinks about it and how he has evolved into this process that is heavily influenced by the work of Tim Kight.
