The Book of Yona, Part 3 - September 21, 2023

This evening we present the third of a three-part series on the Book of Yona, which we read on Yom Kippur afternoon. This short, famous, fantastic story of Jonah and the whale expresses every theme of the High Holidays. Tonight we explore the use of a lottery for Yona and on Yom Kippur, putting our good intentions into action, recognizing the humanity in our enemies, and seeing ourselves as God's jewel, from whom God receives "joy." Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
