A Vision for the Future

The question is this: What should a church be and do, and what does Anabaptism offer that can result in a compelling vision to be and do these things?

The church of Jesus Christ should be and do these things: worship, teach doctrine, proclaim the Gospel of Christ, provide belonging and fellowship, make disciples, experience the presence and power of the Holy Spirit, and identify gifts and provide opportunities for ministry.

Anabaptism offers a compelling vision of the work of Christ for us in His life and death, a compelling vision of initial salvation, a compelling vision of the resurrection of Christ for and in the believer, a compelling vision of the Christian life as discipleship, a compelling vision of the church as a community, and a compelling vision of the practice of nonresistant love.

Despite several weaknesses in the Anabaptist tradition, we have inherited a tradition that provides a base out of which we can develop vision and activities that allow us to be and do what a church should be and do.
