Making Space for Grief with Shannon Kirby, LMFT
Grief can affect us in so many ways. Chances are you have experienced grief at some point in your life. I am joined by Shannon Kirby, a licensed marriage and family therapist as we dive into the concept of ambiguous grief and how it affects us. Ambiguous grief is when we experience a loss that society doesn’t typically recognize, like losing a job, a friendship, or the idea of what we thought our life should be. This type of grief often gets downplayed or dismissed because it doesn’t fit into the usual categories of loss, such as death or divorce.
It’s important to have a safe space to validate your feelings if you are experiencing ambiguous grief. These losses are real and significant, even if they don’t fit the traditional mold. We also talk more about parenting and Shannon shares valuable advice on how to handle children’s emotions and the need to validate your children’s feelings and provide a supportive environment for them.
If you are going through grief, know that you are not alone and I hope this episode helps you validate how you are feeling.
