Insights into Sukkot - September 28, 2023

This evening we discuss in what way Sukkot is the culmination of both the Three Festivals (Pesach, Shavuot, Sukkot), and the culmination of the High Holidays (Rosh Hashana, Yom Kippur, Sukkot), based on the thought of Rabbi Yitzchok Hutner, and analysis of an obscure line in the Sukkot prayers. We quote Yogi Berra to gain insight into the use of the striking metaphor, Sukkah of David. And we quote the Rav, Rabbi Yosef Soloveitchik, on a pervasive problem we face, combining romance with discipline in our religious lives. Michael Whitman is the senior rabbi of ADATH Congregation in Hampstead, Quebec, and an adjunct professor at McGill University Faculty of Law. ADATH is a modern orthodox synagogue community in suburban Montreal, providing Judaism for the next generation.
