What is your attitude towards risk? Are you an avid risk-taker, or do you try to avoid it at any cost? In today’s episode, I dive into my own interpretation of risk and the factors that determine which side of the fence we sit on. For me, it’s about understanding the relationship between possibilities, outcomes and our perception of them. The ‘risk model’ can even be applied to certain mental health conditions to help us better understand our thinking and behavioural patterns at different times.
We’ll discuss:
- The traditional, linear model of risk
- How our perception of possibilities and outcomes is the most important factor in determining our attitude towards risk
- How certain mental health conditions can skew our perception and impact our natural risk tendencies
- How over attachment to outcomes can limit our willingness to take risks
- How under-developed attachment to outcomes can increase our risk taking behaviours
