Welcome to Dark Coffee, the podcast that shines a light on our darkest times.
Join host Alice Lyons as she and her guests explore their experiences with suicide ideation, in order to reduce the silence, stigma and shame that surrounds this issue.
In today’s episode, I speak with Sophie Turton from The Joyful Web; a digital marketing agency for mission-led businesses. She is also a mental health advocate and founder of Belong Con; a platform dedicated to showcasing the power of belonging, acceptance and community.
Sophie speaks about her journey to self-acceptance, the concept of belonging and her personal journey to re-framing her thinking, gradually. Specifically how, at 18, she chose to take responsibility for herself and her actions and do something about her self-destructive behaviour.
Sophie also speaks about her journey to self-enquiry, including:
- How comparison to others can inhibit your sense of self
- The effect of external factors are a distraction from belonging
- How behavioural indicators affect the journey of self-enquiry; how others may pick up on behavioural indicators before you might
- Her story of belonging
