Gospel Reflection– Bishop Brian Mascord–How Welcoming are We (Bishop Brian says Jesus’ words at the end of today's gospel are quite confronting. “I tell you then that the Kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit”. God held the people or the tenants accountable for their actions. Let's read this again as a reflection on our own life and our own response to our relationship as a community of faith with God. Jesus is challenging us, the tenants of the new vineyard of the church, to produce the fruits of justice, love, and peace. The obvious question to ask ourselves today is how we doing? It is just as easy for us in these times to fail to recognise the voice of God in the messengers God sends us, just as it was for the Jewish authority in the time of Jesus. If we're not really making sure that our vineyard produces a rich harvest, not only for us, but for others to enjoy then we're falling short as tenants. Do we measure the quality of our parish by what goes on in the building? Or by what happens when we leave it? Our actions speak much louder than the words we say. How welcoming are we? Would we be prepared to sit on the floor with those who are different? Or are we about bringing people around to our way of thinking? How welcoming are we?)
